Mac Greens organize behind Nader

by Amelia Goodyear

Macalester College is now home to not one, not two, but three political organizations. The Macalester Greens, who join the Republican and Democratic campus groups, held their first meeting two weeks ago on Thursday, Sept. 14. Due to the absence of a quorum, Macalester College Student Government has not been able to consider the group’s petition for a charter. ....

CMA opens doors to students

by Curtis Gilbert

As the Council for Multicultural Affairs waits for Macalester College Student Government to schedule elections for its student representatives, its new office is working feverishly to establish itself as a genuine presence at Macalester.
The CMA office sits on the second floor of the Lampert Building, located between the Career Development Center and the Community Service Office. Its walls are adorned with posters, one of which is a world map that bristles with dozens of tiny pins—one for the hometown of everyone who chances to walk through the door....

Four new trustess appointed

by Jeff Jones

Two Presbyterian pastors and two Macalester alumni were named to the Board of Trustees this May.
Rev. Linda C. Loving is the head pastor at House of Hope Presbyterian Church on Summit Ave. and Rev. Timothy D. Hart-Andersen is head pastor at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Minneapolis. The churches boast the largest Presbyterian congregations in the Twin Cities and both have a long history of involvement with the college.
Macalester and House of Hope were both founded by Dr. Edward Neill, and the college has always been affiliated with the wider Presbyterian Church.
“It relates to the Presbyterian history of the school,” Macalester Chaplain Lucy Forster-Smith said. “Because of that, we really do prioritize having representation from the church on the Board of Trustees.”...

It's about time to support our football team

by Fayaz Jaffer

I’ll tell you why the Macalester football team sucks. No, it’s not the running game; no it isn’t too much passing either. It’s because we, the students, the fans, do not believe in the team. We come to the games, sit in the stands, and then complain about how the team sucks. The most excitement among the Macalester fans is one lone voice screaming him/herself hoarse. You want to hear the sound of one hand clappin? Come to a Macalester football game. We look at the scoreboard flashing the word “defense” and turn back to whoever is sitting next to us and continue talking about what we are going to do that night.
Let’s go to these football games and have fun. Let’s shout ourselves...
