Macalester lost a favorite nearby source of video rentals and inexpensive used CDs when the Snelling and Ashland strip mall that housed Home Video and Cheapo Discs went up in flames in a three-alarm fire Monday night. Nobody was seriously injured in the blaze ....

Neighbors complain, dancers disperse

"The only thing we heard was the announcement that the St. Paul police had called four times, and then we all had to leave," Kitty Harding, '04, said. The night of the Queer Union dance, while many Macalester students were just beginning their evenings, some residents were trying to sleep. The dance was ended early by the police at approximately 1:30 a.m. The St. Paul police responded a number of calls on the night of Friday the 13th concerning the noise level at the QU dance. One woman, who lives near the Fieldhouse, said her hour was shaking because of the noise. ....

As the presidential race is slowly coming to an end, platform issues are become increasingly more important for presidential candidates to differentiate themselves from one another. An issue common on almost every ticket is the environment. With the beginning of the new millennium, such topics as global warming, ozone depletion, and renewable energy are finding themselves in the spotlight. Chapel Uprising Redux

Tuesday was an ugly day for Nader supporters. When Katy McGinty, Gore's chief environmental advisor, came for a forum on the election, the event was crashed by a group who might be described as Children for Nader. They showed no respect for McGinty or other audience members, spoke out of turn and vied for attention like terrible toddlers. They let others speak for such a short time before interrupting, one would think that they all suffered from ADD. During McGinty's introductory remarks, one disrupter insisted that McGinty immediately answer a question because he had to soon leave. Thirty minutes later, when I left in disgust, he was still there, still disrupting. Outside the chapel, someone pounded a drum, attempting to divert attention. Inside, members of Children for Nader ...
