Spike Lee, Roger Guenveur Smith come to Macalester*

The Macalester History Departement, in conjunction with th Walker Art Center, will screen Spike Lee's newest film, "A Huey P. Newton Story," on Monday, September 10 at 7:00p.m. in the John B. Davis Auditorium. The film includes a performance of Roger Guenveur Smith's prize-winning play. Smith wrote the play and performs it as a solo piece in interaction with music by Mike Anthony Thomson , who records as "Chocolate Genius." The play won two Obie Awards, wo ADELCO Awards, the Helen Hayes Award, and three NAACP Awards. Smith will be at the screening and will lead the Macalster audience in a Q&A session after the film. This event is free and is being advertised off campus, so Macalester students should make an effort to come early.

* Contrary to popular rumor, Spike himself will not be in attendance.
"A Huey Newton Story" comtains documentary material of the Black Panther Party, which Huey Newton co-founded with Bobby Seale in 1966.
