Red Cross Blood Drive

The fall blood drive will be held from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm., Wednesday, September 22 in Kagin Commons, Alexander G. Hill Ballroom.  Please schedule your appointment today.  Sign up online at http://www.redcrossblood.org/ and find the Macalester drive by entering zip code 55105.

BLOOD DRIVE AND DISCRIMINATORY FDA POLICIES

We encourage all those who can to give blood.  There will also be a petition urging the Food and Drug Administration to lift the unnecessary ban on men who have had sex with men.  Passed in the wake of AIDS and before effective screening methods were developed, this discriminatory ban has prevented thousands of men from giving "the gift of life".  WHAM and Macalester College reaffirms its commitment to the principles of non-discrimination and respect for all individuals. In spite of the FDA policy to not accept blood donations from sexually active gay males, WHAM has decided that the best course of action is to continue to collect blood for patients in need while working to get the FDA to change its policy in this matter.

See our petition from the fall blood drive, and the response from the FDA:

Thanks for your support, Brian Longley, WHAM Blood Drive Coordinator
