Macalester and the Economy
“Macalester is fortunate to be in a better position than many of our peer institutions. However, we too have felt the impact of the global economic downturn. We exist to educate; students attend Macalester first and foremost because of the quality of that education; and we must ensure that we are delivering on our promise to provide those students with the knowledge, skills, and motivation to succeed and make a positive difference in the world.”
—Macalester President Brian Rosenberg

US News Cites Mac's Strong Aid Program
According to US News and World Report, (Feb. 18), Macalester is one of only 70 four-year colleges in the country that is committed to meeting "...the full financial need of every student using only grants and reasonable amounts of student work and federal debt." That's 70 out of 2,600 schools, or only about three percent of all four-year colleges in the nation.
"Macalester has always ensured qualified students can attend, regardless of family income," said President Brian Rosenberg. "We believe that an economically diverse class enriches the student experience and we are fortunate to have generous alumni and donors who agree and help enable the college to offer more aid than many other colleges."
On average two-thirds of Macalester students receive financial aid.
