Macalester College Music Faculty Receive ASCAP Awards
St. Paul, Minn. - Carleton Macy and Joan E. Griffith have been chosen as American Society of Composers, Authors & Publishers (ASCAP) Award recipients for 2003-2004.

The awards reflect ASCAP's continuing commitment to assist and encourage ASCAP composers. The awards, which originated in 1960, are granted by an independent panel and based upon the unique prestige value of each writer's catalog of original compositions as well as recent performances in areas not surveyed by the Society.

Macy, whose compositions are performed internationally, teaches theory and composition at Macalester. Griffith teaches jazz guitar, jazz bass and improvisation at Macalester.

ASCAP is the world's largest performing rights organization, with over 160,000 composers, authors and publishers in the United States, representing music of every variety and style. ASCAP is the only U.S. performing rights organization governed by and for its members.

Macalester College is a private liberal arts college with a full-time enrollment of 1,851 students. Macalester is nationally recognized for its commitment to academic excellence, internationalism, diversity and service to society.
