Senior Executive at UnitedHealth Group Named
to Macalester's Board
St. Paul, Minn. - Lois E. Quam, a senior executive at
UnitedHealth Group, has been named to the Board of Trustees at
Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn. UnitedHealth Group is a
diversified health and well-being company with over $25 billion
in annual revenue.
An executive with UnitedHealth Group since 1989, Quam is the
Chief Executive Officer of Ovations, one of the company's six
operating businesses. With annual revenues of $6.2 billion, Ovations
is the largest business in the United States dedicated to serving
the health and well-being needs of people age 50 and older. This
singular focus uniquely positions Ovations to serve older Americans
with access to care services, preventive and acute health care
services, and services to address chronic conditions.
Quam is responsible for managing UnitedHealth Group's contract
with AARP, America's largest non-profit organization. As the senior
leader responsible for the UnitedHealth Group proposal to AARP
in 1996, Quam was instrumental in guiding the AARP insurance contract
transfer, one of the largest business transitions in the history
of the U.S. insurance industry. Ovations also provides the nation's
largest prescription savings program, which includes access to
a retail pharmacy network and pharmacy mail order service.
As part of Ovations, Quam oversees Evercare, one of the nation's
largest healthcare companies serving aging, vulnerable and chronically
ill individuals. Through Evercare, UnitedHealth Group is the first
U.S. company to provide care services in the United Kingdom, working
with the British National Health Service to develop 10 pilot projects.
Ovations also works in partnership with the federal government
to provide access to a broad array of health care coverage options
for elderly and disabled individuals who quality for Medicare.
A Rhodes Scholar, Quam received a Master's Degree in philosophy,
politics and economics from Oxford University and graduated magna
cum laude from Macalester in 1983. She received a wide range of
academic and leadership awards including Phi Beta Kappa, the Humphrey-Mondale
Leadership Award, and the Katherine Hauser Award for Scholarship
on Women's History.
Quam is married to Rep. Matt Entenza, a Macalester alumni who
serves as DFL Leader in the Minnesota House of Representatives.
She resides in St. Paul with her husband and three sons.
Quam said that she welcomes the opportunity to return to Macalester.
