Four College Choirs to Perform in the
Annual Macalester Music Department Choirs’ Concert
Saturday, December 2, 2006

St. Paul, Minn. – Robert Peterson, Director of Choral Activities, will be conducting works by Verdi, Monteverdi, Byrd and others at the annual choirs’ concert, 8 p.m., Sat., Dec. 2, 2006, in the Concert Hall, Janet Wallace Fine Arts Center, 1600 Grand Avenue, St. Paul, Minn. Marjorie Merryman, Drake Professor and Music Department Chair, will direct the Women’s Chorus. The concert is free and open to the public.

Choirs participating in the concert are the Macalester Choir, MAC Singers, Women's Choir and Men's Chorus with selected soloists. The Macalester Choir will perform a Banyuwangi folksong by Yohanes sung in Osing and Fuoco di gioia from Act 1 of Verdi’s Otello.  The Men’s Chorus will perform Daemon Irrepit Callidus by Orbán and a new setting of the Scottish folksong, Loch Lomond. The Women’s Chorus will perform five “Chinese Moon Poems” composed by Marjorie Merryman. And the MAC Singers will sing madrigals by Purcell and di Lasso.
