Chicano Messengers of Spoken Word to be performed at Macalester College Fri. Nov 9th
In a collaborative effort; the Macalester College Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship Program, Tru Ruts/Freestyle Theater, and The Loft /Equilibrium Series Present Chicano Messengers of Spoken Word Performing Their Unique Combination of Spoken Word and Theater Around Latino Identity. Def Poets Amalia Ortiz, Paul S. Flores and National Poetry Slam Champion Marc Pinate Set the Standards for New Spoken Word Performance in Chicano Messengers of Spoken Word Which Seamlessly Combines Hip-hop Style Poetry with Experimental Theater.
Minneapolis, MN, November 9, 2007 - Chicano Messengers of Spoken Word comes to the Twin Cities where they will be performing their seamlessly integrated hip-hop poetry and experimental theater with the help of event opening acts by members of Palibristas (Latino Word-slingers), DJ Trinidad, and ANGEL (17 year old hip hop & spoken word lyricist).
Chicano Messengers of Spoken Word will be performed in the Alexander Hill Ballroom in Kagin Commons on the campus of Macalester College on November 9, 2007 from 8:00 p.m. till 10:00 p.m. The performance will feature the group's Artistic Director and PEN Oakland/Josephine Miles National Literary Award winner, Paul S. Flores along with Def Poet Amalia Ortiz and National Poetry Slam Champion Marc Pinate. It will also feature performances by local artists, members of Palibristas and ANGEL, who at 17 is one of the Twin Cities most gifted lyricists. Her music is as gritty and inspirational as her native West Side.
This Performance is FREE and open to the public. Although it is an all ages event, it is not recommended for youth under 15 years of age. Macalester College is located at 1600 Grand Avenue, Saint Paul, MN 55105. Kagin Commons is located on the north side of Grand Avenue and on the west side of the quad.
