Four College Choirs to Perform in Annual Spring Choral Concert
Final Concert for Director Robert Peterson

SAINT PAUL – April 21, 2008 – Robert Peterson, Macalester College’s Director of Choral Activities for the past four years, will retire after he conducts his final Spring Choral Concert at 8 p.m., Saturday, April 26, 2008, in the Janet Wallace Fine Arts Concert Hall.  The concert is free and open to the public.

The Macalester Choir will perform a double chorus motet by Heinrich Schütz, and major choruses from the operas Nabucco by Verdi, and The Tender Land by Copland.  Associate Professor and pianist Mark Mazullo will accompany the choir for the Verdi.

Other participating choral groups and singers include the MAC Singers, Women's Choir, Men's Chorus and individual soloists in recital.  Daniel Pickens-Jones, student director for the Macalester Choir, will conduct David’s Lamentation by Billings.

Peterson, who has been at Macalester for 10 years, will continue as music director of the Twin Cities Catholic Chorale, where he frequently conducts major Latin masses with the chorale and members of the Minnesota Orchestra at St. Agnes Church in St. Paul.

Macalester College, founded in 1874, is a national liberal arts college with a full-time enrollment of 1,873 students. Macalester is nationally recognized for its long-standing commitment to academic excellence, internationalism, multiculturalism and civic engagement.
