"Oh the shark has pretty teeth, dear," so beware - Mac the Knife is back in town! Out of gutters, jails and brothels this macabre masterpiece tells the tale of the murderous Macheath, uncrowned King of Criminals, as he stalks money, power and women with a violent passion. Embellished with marvelously comic characters and witty songs, this play satirizes an effete culture in a corrupt world - a world not unlike our own.
Gary Briggle has staged classic opera to contemporary works, from Mozart to Argento, Gilbert & Sullivan to Sondheim. He recently directed "The Comedy of Errors" at Concordia College (St. Paul), Rossini's "La Cambiale di Matrimonio" at the University of Iowa, "H.M.S. Pinafore" at Dayton Opera (Ohio) and "Berlin to Broadway with Kurt Weill" for Skylark Opera (St. Paul). A professional singer-actor for over 30 years, he was a member of the Minnesota Opera Company, The Children's Theatre (acting) Company (Minneapolis) and has performed with Nautilus Music-Theater (St. Paul), Frank Theater (Minneapolis), Theatre de la Jeune Lune (Minneapolis), and Ordway Center for the Performing Arts (St. Paul), among others. Briggle also teaches Balk Techniques for singer-actors at MacPhail Center for Music (Minneapolis).
