Off-Leash Area, led by artistic directors Paul Herwig and Jennifer Ilse, creates performances that project a universal humanism with an intensely intimate, emotional impact while, in the case of Our Town, emphasizing the tragic magnitude of the everyday lives within the play.
They also utilize a creative and innovative vision of the stage space - exactly the strengths that made Wilder's Our Town the groundbreaking work that it was in the 1930's.
Our Town is a character story about an average town's citizens in the early twentieth century as depicted through their everyday lives.
First produced in 1938, the Pulitzer-Prize winning play reveals the ordinary lives of the people in the small town of Grover's Corners, N.H. In addition to the Pulitzer Prize, the play received two awards in 1989: the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Revival and the Tony Award for Best Revival.
Macalester College, founded in 1874, is a national liberal arts college with a full-time enrollment of 1,884 students. Macalester is nationally recognized for its long-standing commitment to academic excellence, internationalism, multiculturalism and civic engagement.
