“SONGS OF THE EARTH” - An Eclectic African and African-American Mass

St. Paul, Minn. - Feb. 23, 2009 -

Who:  The Macalester Concert Choir, the African Music Ensemble, Macalester Student Organizations: BLAC (Black Liberation Affairs Committee), Afrika!, CSA (Caribbean Student Association), and Voices of Tamani (an African-American gospel singing group); featuring Gospel soloist Tonia Hughes Kendrick; drummer Mac Santiago; Gospel pianist Thomas West; Artistic Director and Conductor Eugene Rogers; African Music Ensemble Director Sowah Mensah and Choreographer Patricia Brown.

What: Inaugural “SONGS OF THE EARTH” concert series, an eclectic mass performance with African-American gospel music and other music from Uganda, Tanzania, Ghana and Egypt.

When: Saturday, Feb. 28, at 8 p.m.
