The Tenth Annual American Studies Conference at Macalester

Who: Keynote speakers: Cheryl I. Harris, law professor, UCLA School of Law, will talk about “Tracing Race in Colorblind Spaces,” and David Roediger, the Kendrick C. Babcock professor of history at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, will talk about “Whiteness as Management: Race and Capitalist Control of Production in the U.S. Past and Present.”
Other participants include Paru Shah, professor, Political Science; Macalester; Jason Ruiz, professor, American Studies and Faculty Fellow, Institute for Latino Studies, University of Notre Dame; Sarah Deer, lawyer and visiting professor of law, William Mitchell College of Law; Kristin Naca, Consortium for Faculty Diversity Postdoctoral Fellow, English, Macalester; and Mee Moua, Minn. state senator.
What: Tenth Annual American Studies Conference – “WHITENESS In the Age of Obama.” The conference continues Saturday, Feb. 21 with a panel discussion and a play reading.
