Macalester College Presents Jazz Pianist Geri Allen
March 11, 2010 – St. Paul, Minn.– Geri Allen, the internationally known, award-winning jazz pianist, composer, and arranger, will perform on Saturday, March 27 at 8 p.m. in Macalester College’s Janet Wallace Fine Arts Center Concert Hall, 1600 Grand Ave., St. Paul.
Allen will be performing with the Geri Allen Trio (featuring Kenny David on bass and Kassa Overall on drums), the Macalester Concert Choir, and the Mac Jazz Big Band.
They will be performing an excerpt from “Mary Lou’s Mass” by Mary Lou Williams, original compositions by Allen, and jazz standards.
Allen has appeared as a composer and performer at Carnegie Hall, the San Francisco Jazz Festival, and the Cape Town Jazz Festival, among other venues. She has held residencies at numerous colleges, including Spelman College and Harvard University. She is currently an associate professor of Jazz and Contemporary Improvisation at the University of Michigan.
