J. Andrew Overman
Archaeology/Classical Period/Christianity and Judiasm
Overman is currently leading a Macalester archaeological excavation in Galilee, northern Israel, at a Roman temple that appears to date from the first-to-second century. The dig was the focus of a recent television documentary. Overman specializes in religion, culture and ethnicity in the Greco-Roman world. He has written extensively on issues such as the development of Judaism and Christianity in the Roman Empire, the interaction between cultures and races in the Roman Empire, diaspora Judaism and archeology of the Roman world.
Jeremiah Reedy
Latin and Greek/Liberal Arts Education
Reedy's interests include Latin and Greek (languages and literatures), mythology and Greek philosophy. His publications include translations and editions of Greek and Latin works, plus articles on Plato, Aristotle, skepticism, stoicism and the philosophy of liberal arts education.
Beth Severy
Imperial Rome/Women in the Ancient World
Severy is an expert on Augustan Rome. Her research also focuses on the role of women in the ancient world, iconography and imagery in the Roman world as well as the relationship among the family, domestic life and politics in the Greco-Roman world. She is currently researching the development of the first imperial family in Rome's change from a republic to a monarchical empire under Augustan. Severy has taught in Rome at the Undergraduate Center and coordinates the college's Rome program.
