Carol Gersmehl

Map Use

Gersmehl's research focuses on map use and cognition by children. Rand McNally recently published Minnesota Studies, which includes more than 30 maps and accompanying lessons for middle-school students developed by Gersmehl. She also published Minnesota Studies and Food for Thought. She teaches introductory and advanced courses in cartography and geographic information that focus on visualization and analysis of spatial data.

David Lanegran

Urban Studies/Human Geography/Flooding/ Geography Education

Lanegran is a expert on urban development and planning issues around the world, the history of the Twin Cities and the Iron Range area of Minnesota. He is also a resource on riverfront development in St. Paul. He has published numerous books and articles and is working on a book examing the residential patterns of the Twin Cities. He is the co-author of Grand Avenue: The Renaissance of an Urban Street. He teaches courses in human and urban geography. In addition, Lanegran is past president of the National Council for Geographic Education and serves as coordinator for the Minnesota Geography Alliance, which administers programming for K-12 geography teachers and students in the state. He also serves as the college's dean of social sciences.
