Janet Folina
Mathematics and Logic
Folina specializes in logic and the philosophy of mathematics. She also is interested in Ludwig Wittgenstein and other 20th century philosophers as well as contemporary analytical philosophy. She is the author of Poincare and the Philosophy of Mathematics. She is currently researching Weyl's philosophy of mathematics and the concept of proof in mathematics.
Joy Laine
Philosophy of the Mind
Laine specializes in philosophy of the mind and language. Her work encompasses Western and Indian philosophical traditions. She has worked extensively in India and with traditional Indian Pandits (wise men). She has written entries for the Routledge Encyclopedia of Philosohpy on "Indian Philosophy of Mind" and on three important Indian philosophers Vatsyayana, Vacaspati Misra and Udayana. She is also working on a book, Philosophical Persons, which examines the development of philosophical theories of personal identity.
Henry West
Utilitarianism/Political Philosophy
West specializes in utilitarianism, especially the philosophy of John Stuart Mill. He is also interested in political philosophy and ethical theory. He wrote the entry on "Utilitarianism" for the Encyclopaedia Britannica, the entry on "John Stuart Mill" for the Encyclopedia of Ethics and entries for the Encyclopedia of Philosophy. He is currently working on a manuscript on the utilitarian ethics of Mill. He teaches courses on ethics and political philosophy as well as the history of Western philosophy, particularly ancient and medieval philosophies.
