Kofi Annan '61
Annan, former United Nations Secretary-General and Nobel Laureate,
visited campus on Wednesday, May 20. He held a discussion with
students and unveiled a bust of himself that is a gift to the college. The bust was installed in Markim Hall, home of the Institute for Global Citizenship.

"Globalism starts at home. Get involved in your local community. Don't be afraid to make mistakes," said Kofi Annan '61 while visiting Macalester's new Institute for Global Citizenship, which promotes learning, scholarship, and service focused on civic engagement and global leadership locally, nationally, and internationally.

During his visit, he held a Q & A session with Macalester students; attended the unveiling of the bust of himself installed in Markim Hall, home of the Institute of Global Citizenship; spoke with President Brian C. Rosenberg before a small luncheon; and took a brief tour of the Leonard Center where he autographed the ping-pong table named after him.
