On March 12, as part of the Mayo Innovation Scholars Program, a team of four Mac students presented their analysis of and recommendations regarding a medical innovation developed at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Twelve multidisciplinary teams from select Minnesota private colleges and universities presented their findings to intellectual property experts at Mayo and other program participants. The Mac team, chemistry major Chen Gu ’11 and economics majors David Lopez ’10, Varini Sharma ’11 and Philip Titcombe ’11, evaluated a promising diagnostic and therapeutic technology for enhancing permeability across the blood brain barrier.
The team was advised by faculty members Elizabeth Jansen and Chris Calderone (biology), Rebecca Hoye (chemistry), and Joyce Minor and Jeff Evans (economics). MISP was founded by retired Medtronic executive John Meslow, with funding and support from the Medtronic Foundation, Mayo Clinic, and the Minnesota Private College Council. Jansen serves as Academic Program Director for the program. For more information, visit www.mnprivatecolleges.org/misp.
