Origination:
WMCN Radio, an FM station, commenced broadcasting on October 8, 1979. WMCN is located at 91.7 MHz on the FM dial with a power of 10 watts. Its offices and studios are located at Macalester College, 1600 Grand Ave., St. Paul, Minn. 55105.
Purpose:
WMCN is a free-form, non-commercial, educational radio station serving Macalester College and its surrounding communities.
Operations:
WMCN Radio is a student constructed, run, managed and maintained radio station. WMCN exists for the educational benefit as well as the entertainment benefit available to all who participate. WMCN programs and presentations are designed and produced by students.
Philosophy:
WMCN is committed to bringing alternative music excellence and information to its surrounding community.
WMCN will continue to work at establishing itself as a respected news and public service facility.
Ultimate decisions and responsibilities lie with the general manager, (station manager) who shall be a Macalester student with no less than 4 (four) semesters of experience at WMCN radio. He/ she is charged with carrying out the philosophy of WMCN radio until the completion of his/her term.
Pledge:
Board members and staff of WMCN pledge to carry out their station responsibilities and duties to the best of their abilities for the term of their association with WMCN. Furthermore, they pledge to adhere to the philosophy of WMCN and its ultimate goals and shall do everything within their respective powers to see these goals carried out and completed.
