WMCN 91.7fm DJ Application :: Spring 2006

All applications are due NO LATER than SUNDAY FEBRUARY 12st at 7pm. Show selection will take place that evening. We will be accepting NO LATE applications. Paper applications are due either at the campus center info desk or at the WMCN station door.

PLEASE NOTE:
This semester, we will be continuing our grand experiment with horizontal programming. WMCN has chosen to make this alteration in the interest of increasing consistency in our broadcasting and allowing for those interested in specific genres to broadcast during set periods of time every single day of the week. Therefore, with the exceptions of weekends which may prove to be more flexible in scheduling, WMCN is going to attempt to place each DJ interested in a specific genre inside of specific time-blocks that will go as follows:

MONDAY-FRIDAY:
8am - 9am - AMERICANA
9am - 10am - NEWS
10am - 11am - NEWS
11am - 12pm - NEWS
12pm - 1pm - WORLD
1pm - 2pm - WORLD
2pm - 3pm - WORLD
3pm - 4pm - ROCK
4pm - 6pm - ROCK
6pm - 8pm - ROCK
8pm - 10pm - ROCK
10pm - 12am - HIP-HOP
12am - 2am - RPM METAL

SATURDAY-SUNDAY:
WILL VARY

DJs, keep in mind that this does not mean that your application will necessarily be denied if you are unable to fit into these time slots. Also, please note that if you find that your genre of broadcast does not fit into these categories, you ought not to be discouraged from applying for a show: if your idea for a show is feasible, there will be space made for you! If you have a specific reason for being unable to broadcast during these times please explain so at the BOTTOM of your application in the space provided. Slots for shows are negotiable and will be solidified upon receiving and reviewing ALL applications.

REMEMBER, WMCN exists as an outlet for music, news and other expression that cannot be found elsewhere in radio. When applying for a show, please consider that with 89.3 the current, radio K and KFAI, the twin cities radio market is saturated with "alternative" or "independent" media. Making your show unique to the Macalester College community, or presenting musical genres that are not regularly found elsewhere will greatly improve your chances of earning a timeslot.

That said, apply apply apply!!

Best of luck and nuch love, The WMCN Staff

Your Show:

Name of your show:

Are you interested in doing a 2 hour show?

Genre/Theme of your show:

Write a few lines for the WMCN Program Guide describing your show:
[please try to keep it short, or we might have to cut something out]

Please give a cohesive description of your show. WMCN seeks a diverse set of programming, and like many college radio stations, WMCN does not limit itself to any particular genre[s]. However, REMEMBER "eclectic" is not a genre. The best shows exhibit a commitment to a form, as well as consistent artist selection and enthusiasm on the part of the DJ[s]. Please at least 20 artists you would regularly play. For a talk show please thoroughly discuss exactly what you'd like to do.

 - Remember: more times can only improve your chance of getting a show. Be careful, if you select a time you can't do and get a show, we cannot change the entire schedule to accomodate you.

Check the box below if you are interested in becoming a sub, even if your show is not selected. This means that you will still have to attend the DJ meeting and go through DJ training, and if a slot is open (if the regular DJ can’t make it or is sick) you will have the opportunity to fill in. This is a great opportunity to get experience and be a trooper.

Yes, I would like to be a sub.

PLEASE READ

If your show is accepted, you will be informed by email on either Wednesday Sept 21st or Thursday Sept 22nd. In order to become a certified WMCN DJ, you MUST attend the DJ meeting which will take place Thursday Sept 22nd at 10pm. Plan for this now. Also, you MUST attend a training session (even if you are returning DJ) on either Friday Sept 23rd, Saturday Sept 24th, or Sunday Sept 25th. Failure to either attend the DJ meeting or to get trained will mean that you will lose your WMCN show.

You will be informed of your DJ training time when you hear if your show was accepted.
