Fond Farewell

WMCN will go off the air for the semester at 2AM Saturday morning. Many thanks go out to all friends and allies of WMCN for all their hard work, we'll be back before you know it.

Tomorrow (12.16) we will be in the Campus Center basement hawking our latest t-shirts, available in two colors and sizes for the whole family. Only $5!

SECOND ANNUAL WMCN BENEFIT SHOW

WMCN's second annual Sampler Show is Saturday, December 3rd at the 400 Bar in Minneapolis. The show will start at 8pm and features Macalester bands and post-Macalester artists, including :

Johanna Cohn
Angie Oase
WMCN's own DJ's Happy DJ and Simone Speers
Plus more to be announced!
Entry is $5 and the show is 18+.

Off Air

WMCN is off the air for Macalester College's Thanksgiving break. Tune in 8AM Monday for the thrilling three week conclusion of the Fall 2005 broadcast semester.

Very Important HANSON Update

Hanson will not perform an acoustic set at the campus center on Sunday as scheduled due to conflicts with an engagement later that evening. The band will still be interviewed live at WMCN studios Sunday morning at 11AM.

Yes, the rumors are true.

Hanson is coming to Macalester Sunday, November 20th, and WMCN will be interviewing them on-air at 11AM! They'll also be doing an acoustic set in the Campus Center around noon. If you would like to interview the band, e-mail your name and the three questions you would like to ask Hanson and a brief paragraph explaining why you like to interview the band to Caitlin, our Promotions Director, at: cdonesley@macalester.edu.

All applications must be received by 9 pm on Nov. 17, 2005.

If you tune in to our Tuesday or Thursday shows at 6.30 PM you will be given the chance to win tickets and backstage passes to their concert.

WMCN has a new logo, which means that new t-shirts and a website redesign are forthcoming. This time around we are offering something a little different to celebrate as well, official WMCN underwear! They will be available in flattering styles for men and women, allowing you to flaunt WMCN 24/7! More details on how to order when they arrive!

Fall Break

WMCN will be off the air for Macalester College's mid-term break from 2:00AM Thursday, October 27 to 8:00AM Monday, October 31st.

The webcast difficulties that caused delays and frequent rebuffering have been resolved. Please feel free to contact us if you experience other issues with the webcast.

News

A few tidbits from the WMCN newsroom...

-We are experiencing periodical technical difficulties with our webcast stream. The stream will load properly, but stops to rebuffer frequently. This is an issue with either our bandwidth provided by the college or SHOUTCast, the company that hosts our stream. Both parties have been contacted, and we will post updates as we have a solution.

-Beginning this week, WMCN will be broadcast LIVE in the campus center during dinners (5-7:30pm) Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday, and during brunch (10:30-1pm) on Saturdays and Sundays. In addition, WMCN has again commandeered control of the jukebox during other meal times, so if you have requests please email us.

-Stop by the station or campus center info desk and pick up a copy of LINER NOTES, the first issue of our new biweekly newsletter. The newsletter will feature news, upcoming concerts, top albums at the station and a featured show/dj. We are also having a WMCN trivia contest, so pick one up for your chance to win a WMCN t-shirt.

-You've seen the little guy with the headphones everywhere...well it's time for him to go. WMCN announces an open invitation to design our new logo. Anyone can submit a design, just SPO it to WMCN. The winning design will be featured on WMCN publications and apparel, and score a gift certificate to CHEAPO discs for you!

-Program Guide updates again...

Day 2

Whew. It has been a busy week at WMCN. Let's get you up to speed:

-We went back on air yesterday morning at 8:00 AM. (9/27) This resumes our normal broadcast schedule, M-F 8:00 AM - 2:00 AM and Sat/Sun 10:00 AM - 2:00 AM. Breaks in the broadcast schedule for Macalester College academic calendar breaks and any other break in this schedule will be posted here well in advance.

-We have resumed CMJ charting and our first chart of the semester will be available in 5-7 days and on a regular weekly schedule henceforth. As always you will find the top 10 albums in a banner above the news blog and the entire chart (as well as months of old charts) in the "charts" tab above. Label/Promo reps with individual inquiries should contact specific staff members.

-Congratulations to all those who were accepted as DJs for the fall semester. With 100+ DJs this is our largest staff ever, and easily makes us the largest student org on campus. Our apologies for the inconvenience caused by the failure of the online application, we were thankfully able to accommodate most who submitted applications online. We are assured that this will not be an issue this spring.

-The Fall 2005 Program Guide is now available. Check it out!

-Office Hours and contact information for our Fall 2005 staff are now available here.

Important

5:00 PM We continue to feel the growing pains from the migration of our servers over the summer. A glitch has caused any submitted online DJ apps to become lost in cyberspace. Do not use the online application until further notice, hopefully tomorrow morning. If you submitted an online application in the last 48 hours you should fill out a paper app, or send us an email and we'll arrange to get you an application and/or notify you when things are working again. Again our apologies, in the end these changes should make station operations smoother.

Return of Broadcasting, DJ Selection

Welcome back from WMCN!

We apologize for the delay in web updates, Macalester migrated its servers over the summer, and well, it gets a little technical, but we're all here now and excited to begin the new broadcast semester.

As always we have many exciting events and new additions planned this year, but for now since we are on a tight schedule to pick DJs and get back on the air ASAP, a few important details...

-Applications to be a DJ for Fall 05 are due no later than 7:00 PM TUESDAY September 20th. Applications may be picked up and returned either the Macalester College Campus Center information desk or the WMCN station door in the basement of 30 Mac.
