Holiday Specials

We're officially off the air, but we will be webcasting a couple shows this weekend. As promised, Aaron Mendelson will return to the air today, starting at 6 pm, to wrap up the year in music. Excellent.
That will be followed on Sunday, from 8-10 pm, by the final GOBS of the semester, G. Stueven's journey through ten years of punk and post-punk. The year covered will be 1986, plus a fair amount of Christmas music and top ten songs of 2007. Sweet.
Don't forget the concert tonight! (see below for details)

Concert Update
There's been a small change in the lineup for our concert this Saturday. Whitejazz is out, and Dirty Paws are in. It's still gonna be a wonderful time, so we hope to see you there.

In other news, WMCN will be going off the air for winter break after the last show this Friday, and won't be returning til early next February. Check back here for possible announcements about specialty programming over the break. We've had a fun semester, and hope you have as well, whether or not you chose to bring WMCN into hearth and home.
Hold on, we lied. We're not really off the air til Saturday, as that's the day Aaron Mendelson, our Spring '08 Office Manager, will be returned from his recent Mexican odyssey. He'll be looking back at the musical year 2007 and counting down the hours til that aforementioned concert. Tune in during the afternoon hours (and check back here for the exact time shift Senor Mendelson will be covering).
Last, and most important: We're pleased to welcome Amelia Nielsen '08 to the WMCN staff! She'll be serving as Promotions Manager next semester, and she's all ready to make WMCN an inescapable force on campus.

Searching for New Staff!
WMCN is looking for a new promotions manager for the spring semester, as we will soon have to say farewell to current manager Katie Trostel. Applications are available at the Info Desk, the station door, and downloadable right here. Due by Sunday, December 9 at 8 pm.
No new charts this week, due to the intervention of Thanksgiving break, but check back this weekend for the latest. More info soon (very soon) about our second (and final) concert of the semester. A word to the wise: Don't make plans for December 15...
Neil Young strikes again, on our blog.

Break.

WMCN is shutting down for Thanksgiving break after the last show this Tuesday night, but that doesn't mean we won't be broadcasting. We'll be running music on random during the break, but hold off your requests until Monday morning, 11/26, when we return to regular programming.
Check back here after the break for information about staff hirings for next semester. WMCN is looking for a new promotions director, and possibly other positions.
In other news, yesterday marked the WMCN debut of Andi Wulff and Deb Chaulk, from Macalester's alumni department. They hosted a wonderful show entitled 80s Rewind, featuring a modest helping of tunes from John Hughes flicks and other delights. Download it here, while reading our blog.

Sleep No More

Listen up tonight for the premiere of WMCN's overnight broadcasting. This new digital library of ours gives us the magic power of bringing you tunes all night long, during the hours we are usually off the air (2-8 am, and 2-10 am on weekends). Our overnight playlist is 100% clean, so expect to hear lots of Bob Dylan, Buddy Holly, and good ol' Hank.
Don't forget new concert listings, updated archives, our awesome PSA form, and delightful blog.
More info soon about t-shirts, our next concert, and Hanson.

Goodbye, hello
WMCN goes off the air for Fall Break after the 12-2 am show this Wednesday. Broadcasting resumes on Monday morning. Keep an ear out for possible specialty programming over the break, brought to you by the fine members of WMCN's staff as they toil away in the station.
In other exciting news, WMCN's long-fermenting digital library will launch when we return from break. What does this mean for you? For one thing, unlimited resources for our DJs as they try to fill your loving requests...

Up next on WMCN...
Celebrate the return of Mac alums John Karol '98, Sam Cooper '99, Nick Lundgren '00 and Cameron Vincent '98 to WMCN tonight from 10 pm to 12 am. These fellows were responsible for the metal/rock show Metal Jumbalaya on WMCN back in the late 90s, and now they're back for an in-station quasi-bachelor party (Mr. Vincent is soon to be married). Download the show here.
Also tune in for DJ Nick Kahn's tribute to the music of the Rat Pack this week on the Great Rotation Experiment (Saturday 2-4 pm). Who can say no to Ol' Blue Eyes and "Anything Goes"?
On a final note, WMCN's broadcast will experience a brief interruption on Monday morning at 8 am, lasting no more than 15 minutes, due to an IT inspection. Webcasting will be unaffected.

More
We're trying some new things on our schedule this semester. First, tune in Wednesday from 3-4 pm for our Album of the Week: our highest charting album, an old classic, or some other surprise. Rock Director Zach Dotray provides insightful commentary.
Also, our Saturday 2-4 pm slot will be featuring rotating DJs this year. You can cherish each show all the more, as it will never happen again. First up: Mac alum Tom O'Connor ('96) tells listeners about some Obscure Soul and T. Rex's Electric Warrior. Tune in tomorrow for this wonderful treat.

Are you listening yet?
If you haven't noticed, WMCN is back on the air, broadcasting and webcasting 18 hours a day (16 on the weekends). Check out our new program guide.

So what's new, you ask? If you want to request a song, but are too shy to call our request line (x6312), you're in luck. Talk with on-air DJs on AOL instant messenger: just send a message to wmcn917, and you'll be chatting in a jiffy!
Lastly, don't forget the WMCN-sponsored concert in the Hill Ballroom of Kagin Commons this Friday, September 21. Two fine fine local rock bands, The Vintage Mink and Dance Band, will be there to entertain and enlighten. It all starts at 8:30 pm with Macalester's own DJ Club spinning some beats, followed by the bands at 9:30. You will be glad if you attend, we will be sad if you do not.

Let it be known...

...that the beast they call WMCN is reemerging from its slumber. Fall 2007 broadcasting begins September 17th.
That means we need DJs! We're now taking applications, which you can fill out here, or get a paper copy at the Info Desk or station door. Due no later than September 10th at 10pm.
More information coming soon about our radio kickoff concert and other fun stuff. Our blog is rad.
