What a year it will be! In other news... If you missed WMCN's electrifying spring concert in 10K last night, it looked something like this:

That's Plastic Chord's Orion Treon getting into it with a theremin. The night also featured great sets by Gay Beast and Brian Whitson & The Night Wolves. More photos coming soon to the photo gallery. WMCN also hosted the Sans Souci Quartet for an in-station performance last Saturday, April 26. They played a wonderful bluegrass set, complete with Bob Dylan cover. You can listen to the whole thing right here.
We're not sold out of those trendy new WMCN t-shirts yet, so if you want one before the break, contact the station and we'll try to hook you up. Otherwise, we'll be selling the remainder in the fall. Check out our new and final charts, and... Have a great summer!
Keep it on the blog.

Happenings
WMCN's webcast server is back up. You can resume listening with the old link. We're working closely with our provider to resolve skipping problems.
Other recent news: On March 29, a historic event occurred in the WMCN station. A lovely band called The War of 1812 set up in the listening room and played a live electric concert during the Saturday evening program Another Side of Grand Avenue, the only show of its kind the station has hosted in recent memory. Fans lined the hallways. It looked something like this:

Thanks to radio hosts Andrew Berger and Sam Robertson, sound guy extraordinaire Sean Hickey, and WMCN's own Zach Dotray and Stuart Hudson. More pictures available here. You can also download the entire set right here.
On a last note, applications for 2008-2009 staff openings will be available here by the end of the week.
How's the new R.E.M.? Find out on the blog.

WMCN's webcast server is currently down. Temporary listening available here.

Off to Cancun...

WMCN goes off the air for Spring Break after the last show this Friday, not to return until Monday, March 24. If you're staying in town, don't forget those concert listings (may we recommend: Stephen Malkmus?). Also, possible special programming over the break to be announced right here...
In other news: help design WMCN's new t-shirt line! Those old shirts still look mighty fine when all you WMCNers wear them around campus, but we're looking for something new before we go to the printers in April. You have until April 6th to send us your designs, and the winner gets a free t-shirt. Submit entries to wmcn@macalester.edu, preferably in .jpg or .pdf format, along with the original file. There are no guidelines, except that designs should be family-friendly and contain that magic phrase: "WMCN 91.7 FM".

We continue to experience problems with our webcast following Sunday night's campus-wide power outage. You can still listen, however, and the difficulties should be resolved soon.
Details forthcoming about our t-shirt design contest. Go see Bob Mould tonight, everyone.

New CMJ charts, special local edition. Just look at all those Twin Cities natives getting plays from our knowledgeable DJs! Maybe one of these local acts will appear at our soon-to-be-announced spring concert...

Spring '08 DJ applications closed on Monday, and we can't wait to unveil this semester's lineup to your eager ears this coming Monday at 10 am. Sadly, our broadcast is down for maintenance, but the webcast is as vital as ever. Our program guide will be available by next week. Thanks to all those who applied for shows...

Part Two

February 11th, 2008: That's WMCN's on-air date for spring semester (and no, we're not going corporate). That leaves only two weeks for DJ recruitment and busy preparation for our glorious return to the airwaves!
As usual, we need your help to make it a successful semester. We'll be delighted if you apply for a radio show. Electronic applications can be filled out right here, and paper apps will be available starting tomorrow at the station door and Info Desk. Due no later than Monday, February 4 at 10 pm.
It's going to be a busy semester, so check back for exciting announcements. A rock 'n' roll show or two, new staff hirings, new directions: it's all happening here at WMCN before the semester's out. And the blog is always fresh.
