Beginning February 2005, WMCN has broadcast all its programming live via webcast, accessible anywhere in the world. The webcast is an exact simulcast of the FM program.

Q: How do I access the webcast?
From within the WMCN site, simply click on the webcasting radio icon on the right side of the page. You may alternately select the "listen" button of the top navigation bar.
Depending on your operating system, you will be prompted to select how to open a .pls file. This is a convention for webradio playlists, and can be opened with several media players. Itunes, Realplayer, WinAmp are recommended, though many other programs may work as well.

Q: What does WMCN use to webcast?
The WMCN webcast is powered by a dedicated G5 server running Nicecast webcasting software.
WMCN uses SHOUTcast to host its webcast stream on the web, where it is distributed to listeners. Legal information on SHOUTcast is available here.
WMCN webcastQ: What is the quality of the WMCN webcast?
A: WMCN webcasts at 96kbs. This is defined at near cd quality, and allows WMCN to bring listeners the ideal balance between sound quality and stream reliability. Our budget only allows us to host one stream, but if reliability is maintained we may increase the quality to 128kbps.

A: If your media player software (itunes, winamp, etc) is working properly and you still cannot access the WMCN web stream it is possible the server is rebooting or under regular maintenance. Excessive lag during loading of the stream is due to network traffic If you still have questions, please feel to contact us and we will do our best to address your concerns on an individual basis.
