Coaching Staff
Head coach Morrey Nellis understands the role sports play as a part
of a complete liberal arts education. He knows it is challenging
balancing academics and athletics. Morrey is a 1973 Macalester Graduate
with honors in History and is a Phi Beta Kappa member. After graduation,
he did graduate work in history at the University of Minnesota. While at
Macalester Morrey was a four-year letter winner in soc
cer as well as the team captain and MVP in 1972 and was also a member of
the tennis team for three seasons. As a former Resident Assistant, reading
tutor, and pipe band apprentice, Morrey knows Macalester life well.
In the 90's Morrey served as Athletic Department student employment
supervisor, Director of Club Sports & Intramurals, tennis and skiing
instructor, assistant women's soccer coach (1986-97) and head women's tennis
coach (1987). Morrey was the cross country skiing club coach in 1995-96, and
started the Varsity Ski Team in 1996-97. He hosts a weekly radio program on
the college station WMCN.
Morrey also continues ski racing and year round training at the master's
level with the Sisu Skiers Ski Club in St. Paul. His wife Carol Ann Sersland
skied for the University of Utah cross country ski team in the 1970's and
is currently a remote sensing specialist with BRW, a Minneapolis engineering
firm. Their daughter, Margit, is begining fifth grade and is exploring
soccer, skiing and horse back riding.
