January 10, 2004 -- Just a few days after returning from the U.S. Nationals in Rumsford, Maine, the Macalester nordic ski team raced Saturday (Jan. 10) at the Saints Invitational in Elk River.  The competition was held at the Elk River Woodland Trails and was co-hosted by St. John’s and St. Benedict.

In the women’s race the Scots finished third to St. Benedict and St. Cloud State, and in the men’s race Macalester placed second behind St. John’s.  

The women competed in a 5-kilometer skate, with Emily Stafford (So., Burnsville, MN) leading the way for the Scots.  Stafford placed fifth out of 15 finishers with a time of 19:34.  Julia Parke (FY, Richfield, VT / Mt. Mansfield Union) finish eighth with a mark of 20:23 and Renee Schaefer (Sr., Waukesha, WI) placed 10th at 21:04.

The men raced a 10-kilometer skate against St. John’s.  Ari Ofsevit (So., Newtonville, MA / Newton North) led the way for the Scots, placing sixth out of 10 finishers with a 35:17 clocking.

The Scots compete in an NCAA central region qualifier this Saturday and Sunday (Jan. 17-18) at Mt. Itasca.
