January 24-25 2004 -- Macalester raced in another
NCAA qualifier meet Saturday and Sunday at Telemark Lodge in Cable, Wisconsin.
All four Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) teams participated,
as well as Northern Michigan, Alaska-Fairbanks, Wisconsin-Green Bay, St.
Cloud State and Michigan Tech.
Emily Stafford (So., Burnsville, MN) led the way for
the Macalester women in both the 5K freestyle and 10K classical races.
She placed 27th out of 43 finishers in the 5K freestyle (21:35) on Saturday.
That was eighth best among 20 MIAC skiers. On Sunday Stafford led the
Scots in the 10K classical race, finishing the course in 46:39. That
was 31st of 44 overall and 12th out of 21 among MIAC finishers. Renee
Schaefer (Sr., Waukesha, WI / North) placed 33rd in the freestyle (22:35)
and 32nd in the classic (46:42). Julia Parke (FY, Santa Fe, NM / Santa
Fe Prep) was 37th in the freestyle (23:27) and 35th in the classical (47:45).
Dan Risch-Body (FY, Minneapolis, MN / South) paced
the Macalester men in the 10K freestyle, placing 36th out of 44 finishers
and 15th out of 24 MIAC finishers (36:44). In the 15K classical, the
Scots were led by Ari Ofsevit (So., Newtonville, MA / Newton North).
Ofsevit was 39th with a time of 1:00.47.
The Scots are off until another regional qualifiing
Feb. 14-15 at Graystone Trails in St. Cloud.
