Scots Have Final NCAA Qualifier; MIAC Championships Up Next
February, 14-15, 2004 -- In their final prep for next weekend's conference championships, the Macalester Scots raced Saturday and Sunday at the NCAA Central Regional Qualifier #4 at Graystone Trails in St. Cloud. Renee Schaefer (Sr., Waukesha, WI / North) and Emily Stafford (So., Burnsville, MN) led the way in Saturday's women's 5K Freestyle event, with Schaefer placing 22nd out of 40 finishers (16:56) and Stafford right behind in 23rd (16:58). They were 10th and 11th among the 23 conference skiers. Julia Parke (FY, Richmond, VT / Mt. Mansfield Union) placed 27th (17:19). Schaefer was 25th in Sunday's Classical race, completing the course in 53:39, while Parke placed 26th (54:04). In Saturday's men's 10K Freestyle, the Scots were led by Dan Risch-Boody (FY, Minneapolis, MN / South), who was 43rd in the field. Ari Ofsevit (So., Newtonville, MA / Newton North) placed 35th in Sunday's Classical race to pace the Scots (1:04.53).The Scots return to this same Graystone Trails course Saturday and Sunday (Feb. 21-22) for the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships . Races are slated to begin at 11 a.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. Sunday.
