Scots Take Fourth
at MIAC Championships

February 21-22, 2004 – Macalester placed fourth in both the
men’s and women’s competition Saturday and Sunday at the Minnesota Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference (MIAC) championships at Graystone Trials in St. Cloud.
Skiers raced freestyle on Saturday and classical style on Sunday. The
Scots had different team leaders in every race. Gustavus Adolphus claimed
both the men’s and women’s team championships.
Mac’s top finishes were posted by Julia Parke (FY, Richmond,
VT / Mt. Mansfield Union) and Renee Schaefer (Sr., Waukesha, WI / North)
in Sunday’s women’s 10-kilometer classic, with Park placing 10th out of 25
finishers with a 41:08 clocking and Schaefer placing 11th just one second
back. Emily Stafford (So., Burnsville, MN) was the team’s top finisher
in Saturday’s 5K freestyle, placing 14th with a 16:13 time. Schaefer
was 15th in the freestyle (16:14) and Park was 16th (16:44).
Dan Risch-Boody (FY, Minneapolis, MN / South) paced
the Macalester men in the 10K freestyle, placing 19th with a 30:10 time.
Ari Ofsevit (So., Newtonville, MA / Newton North) finished 20th at 30:46
and Dirk Langeveld (So., Williamstown, MA / Mt. Greylock) was 22nd
at 31:27. In Sunday’s 15K classic, Ofsevit paced the Scots with a 44:56
clocking, good enough for 19th place. Risch-Boody was 20th (45:37)
and Langeveld was 22nd (46:03).
The Scots close out the season this Saturday and Sunday
(Feb. 28-29) at the NCAA Central Regionals in Houghton, Michigan.
