Here is a view of the stairs that we have been using for a few months now. I had meant to make the temporary treads span the full 4' width but had these for the stairs going to the basement and decided not to cut up another $20 worth of lumber for the Stairs.

You would not believe the number of people who came over and complimented on the "nice new stairs". When I would say that I was in the process of replacing the stairs.

See pictures leading up to this point

Of course the shop space that I have is my first floor. In my mind it is not finished and not too much to worry about as far as piling on the sawdust and wood shavings. At one point the wood-shavings were more than shoe deep. I put the planer through it's paces for sure.

I swept up and filled the shop vac at least three times. No one believed me when I told them that and they were standing in a sea of sawdust.

Not too bad a lookin' stairs if I do say so myself!

Getting the skirtboard exactly matched up with the risers and beveled just so over 6 treads distance is more trickey than any book will ever tell you. Hellooooo filler.

Thank you. Thank you very much for noticing the fine detail of the curved ends of the treads. A very nice touch if I do say so myself.

Here you can see the curved ends of the treads. My father helped me come up with 5 different designs as to what to do with the ends of the treads. This design is not any of them. He is probably still voting for the water feature option.

What the woodworking world would do without wood filler and stain is beyond me!

Many thanks to:

Bill Gray - For lending me his 12.5" Delta Planer. Could not have gotten this project done without it.

Sarah - For putting up with temporary stairs for 3+ months.

Don Whittaker - For last minute help with that super wide skirtboard against the wall. Plus countless hours of help and listening to me talk about plans and schemes.
