And among her miracles [was] that a man from the learned class married a dhimmi (a non-Muslim) woman, and he had a boy by her.  He set out for the land of the enemy and her son did not return from that place. [He was taken prisoner] The woman went out searching to corroborate the news about him.  When the commander failed her, she said to her husband, “A woman has come up amongst us.”  He said to her, “Nafisa bint al-Hasan.” (She said,) “Go to her, perhaps she will intercede for my son.  And then, if he comes, I will believe in her religion.”  Then the man came to Sayyida Nafisa and told her the story.  She prayed for him that God most high would return him to him (the son to the father).  That night there was knocking on the door.  The woman  came out and found her son, as desired, at the door. [ She shrieked for joy, and she hugged (??) her son and tears of joy streamed down her cheek.  After this joyful reunion, his mother asked him about his experience.  She said to him, “Oh my son, tell me what happened to you?  How was it?”  He said, “Oh Mother, I was at the door of the prison, as agreed at such and such a time – and it was at that time that Sayyida Nafisa interceded for him  - in my service, and suddenly a hand caused the shackle to fall and I heard someone say, ‘Free him, for Sayyida Nafisa bint al-Hasan has pleaded for him.’  And I was freed from the manacles and the shackle .  Then suddenly I was walking before the head of our camp and I happened to be at the door.”  The mother rejoiced and she spread the news about this miracle.  In that night 70 people converted to Islam, turned by this miracle. And his mother became a Muslim and dedicated herself to the service of al-Sayyida Nafisa, may Allah be satisfied with her.
