Activities and fun stuff

We here in Room 283 believe that in science, as in life, there is a time for being serious and a time for having fun. Below are some of the activities we participate in and on our "fun stuff" web page is a sampling of our "work hard, play hard" approach to research.

Activities

Hughes Summer Research Program

Keck Student-Faculty Research Collaboration

The Keck Student-Faculty Collaborative Research Program enables teams of Macalester faculty and students to engage in significant projects over a four to ten week period during the summer. The project should be related to the faculty member's curricular, pedagogical, scholarly, or creative interests and should be planned and executed by the student and faculty member working together. The relationship between team members is expected to be truly collaborative; the student is a junior colleague rather than a research assistant. The project should be defined to permit completion of a substantial portion during the summer and result in a creative product by the student (a musical score or work of art exhibited for public, critical review; an honors project or co-authored poster or paper for publication or presentation at a professional meeting; a curriculum module or technology application to be implemented by the faculty; etc.) to be completed by the end of the subsequent academic year.

Fun stuff

1999
Wet suits are hard to get on!
 Attack of the Killer Mussel!

2000
Mark, Ian, and Liz hanging out on the side of the boat.
 Intrepid divers preparing to descend.
Emily and Jessica relaxing on a fun day (we seem to have a lot of those...).  Leif, Meara, and Kelly (guess which one she is!) with the Blackduck near the Chippewa National Forest.
Water fight!  Cristina and Ian take a break from seiving. Mark...our fearless leader...armed and dangerous!
