Chemistry 222     Spring 2006

Announcements: (5/1/06): (1) Here is the preview sheet I handed out last week.  Note that the exam will be 50% American Chemical Society multiple-choice questions, and 50% calculations and short-essay questions on titrations and chromatography.  (2) You may start the exam Thursday as early as 10:00 a.m., and finish as late as 1:30 p.m.  However, you have a maximum of two and one-half consecutive hours to work on the exam.

(4/27/06) (1) For your final on May 4, I will allow you to bring to the final exam a cheat sheet--a 8.5" x 11" piece of paper filled front and back with whatever information you wish. On the final exam, I will provide constants, but not equations.  (2) With the end of the semester comes course evaluations. Here's the link to an on-line form.  While the College decided to grant me tenure (i.e. lifetime employment) this year, that certainly doesn't mean that I have achieved perfection as a teacher, or that the Chemistry 222 curriculum has been perfected. In fact, I think that one thing the College considers in granting tenure is whether the faculty member in question is someone who will be committed to growth and the pursuit of excellence as a teacher for decades to come. One way for me to continue to grow is to continue to seek feedback from you.

Old Announcements:

(4/8/06): Please note these revised due dates: Experiment 4 is now due on April 19, and Problem Set 9 is now due April 26.

(4/4/06): Test 3 will be this Thursday from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. in Olin-Rice 150 (i.e. the same room we used for the first two tests).  Here is a brief preview sheet.

(3/21/06): (1) Remember that we will meet in Olin-Rice 350 for class on Thursday (3/23) at 8:30 a.m., and that we will cancel class on Friday (3/24). Problem Set 6 is still due by 5 p.m. that day.  (2) Homework help will be available on Thursday night from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.  (3) Rob Rossi will be filling in for me next week, while I am away at the American Chemical Society meeting in Atlanta.

(3/6/06) Test 2 will be this Thursday starting at 8:30 a.m. in Olin-Rice 150.  Here is the preview sheet.

(2/28/06): (1) We will be meeting for lab at 8:00 Thursday in our usual place, Olin-Rice 380.  Remember to gather three soil samples before then, and to bring a different notebook from the one you are using for Experiment 2.  (2) Please remember to e-mail me your spreadsheets for Experiment 2 when you turn in your notebook for that lab on Friday.

(2/13/06) Test 1 will be this Thursday starting at 8:30 a.m. in Olin-Rice 150.  Here is the preview sheet.

(1/27/06)  Thanks for a great first week, and enjoy your first full weekend back at Mac!  Remember that senior chem major Anne Blair will be available to help you with PS 1 on Sunday from 5-7 p.m. on the 3rd floor of Olin-Rice.
