From 1981-1997, I was a member of the philosophy faculty at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, California, chairing the department from 1992-1996. Of the research and teaching interests “leavened” through my Cal Poly experience, none was more personally significant than my interest in the philosophy of technology. This interest led to a longstanding involvement with the Society for Philosophy of Technology, an international organization of scholars and practitioners formed in 1976. From 1999-2005, I was a member of the Society’s board and also its treasurer. In 2006, I became president-elect of SPT; and, since 2007 I have had the privilege of serving as SPT’s president. In 2009, I will become the immediate past-president and 2009, I will become the immediate past-president and continue serving on the board for another two years. |
