My perspective on the classroom environment

It is my aim to create a classroom environment in which everyone knows that he or she is welcome and that is conducive to all of us getting a chance to think, listen, learn, build intellectually exciting relationships, and grow. Each student comes with his or her own previous experiences, ideas, ways of thinking about the world in general and the course material in particular. Please come to class prepared to listen and learn, to think out loud even if you're not already completely sure of yourself, and to participate in what is happening.

In order for classes to work well, it matters that everyone -- including you! -- shows up prepared and on time. I do notice when you're not there, and it does make a difference.
