Dave Ehren and Stephanie Alden are the professional staff running SciQ.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Writing Center is housed on the third floor of the library, in Library 309. Jake Mohan and Em Buchanan run the WC.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The professional staff who run Academic Coaching, Stephanie Alden and Em Buchanan, are housed in SciQ and the WC respectively.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The SI Program is a part of the SciQ Center, with Coordinator Stephanie Alden.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>You can find additional information about each of our services below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Syllabus Statement<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Want to include information about our services on your syllabus? Feel free to use the following syllabus statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tutoring @ Mac:<\/strong> Macalester has many resources to support students academically. For example, the Writing Center (WC) provides one-on-one peer tutoring for writing at any stage of a project or paper; the Science and Quantitative Center (SciQ) supports group tutoring for many math, science, and econ courses; and Academic Coaching provides one-on-one support for study skills, time management, reading, note taking, and effective learning strategies. Seeking help is a sign of strength and maturity, and everyone is encouraged to take advantage of the (free) resources available. SI is designed to organize and improve the ways in which students prepare for class outside of class. SI is attached to a subject to provide students with a systematic and disciplined approach for processing the subject material assigned by the professor.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Through this program an SI leader is assigned to a class. This student has already demonstrated proficiency in a targeted subject and undergoes SI training. The SI leader attends the class to keep up with the subject content being presented and to model effective student practices and attitudes. The SI leader schedules and conducts a two-hour group session each week at a time convenient to members of the class. During these sessions, the SI leader uses interactive learning strategies to encourage involvement, comprehension and synthesis of subject content. The SI program provides peer-facilitated study sessions led by qualified and trained SI leaders who attend classes with students and encourage students to practice and discuss course concepts in sessions. Sessions are open to all students who want to improve their understanding of the material.
