Curriculum Vitae

Jim Doyle started teaching at Macalester College in 1992.  He received his Ph.D in Physics from JILA at the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1989 and was a post-doc  in Materials Science at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign from 1989-1992.  He enjoys teaching across the entire physics curriculum and has taught every required course in the major at least once.  Specialty courses include Science of Renewable Energy (Physics 130/Environmental Studies 130), Laboratory Instrumentation (Physics 348) and Digital Electronics (Physics 340/Computer Science 340).  Recent topics courses include Biophysics and Biomechanics.  In his research he specializes in materials science and plasma physics, and has recently started a new project on grid energy storage (see research page).
