Summer 2006 GrassRoots Restoration Staff, minus Maggie Hughes

These pages on the Macalester prairie were completed in August 2006 as a component of an internship with GrassRoots Restoration, completed as a component of the environmental studies major at Macalester College.

The internship consisted of working individually or with other interns to aid in maintenance tasks, species identification, relevés, and tours of the Macalester prairie and the Sisters of Saint Joseph oak savanna.  In addition to an introduction to ecological restoration, interns were taught to identify the native species at both sites, how to conduct relevés, methods of controlling invasive species, and how to create residential landscape designs using appropriate prairie plants.
