|Application deadline||Decision from Macalester|
|Spring 2019||November 15||December 15|
Macalester will consider applications from students who have completed the core curriculum (science, mathematics, social studies, English, or foreign language) available at their high school and would like to continue studying at the college level. Macalester will not approve a PSEO course as a substitute for an available high school class in the same core academic area. The College does not provide PSEO coursework to supplement a student’s high school curriculum such as physical education, dramatic arts, dance, music, fine arts, and computer science. For example, in order to take an international studies course at Macalester, students would have to exhaust all of the social studies classes available at their high school. In order to take a physics course at Macalester, students would have to exhaust all of the science (not just the physics) courses available at their high school.
Admission to the PSEO program does not guarantee you will be able to enroll in your requested course. Macalester’s priority is to first meet the registration needs of our enrolled students. If space is available, we will do our best to enroll you in PSEO coursework prior to the first week of classes, but we may not know if space is available until that time. Final approval for PSEO enrollment is contingent upon the professor’s approval and availability.
Effective after the 2018-2019 academic year, Macalester will discontinue its participation in the Minnesota Post Secondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) Program.
Applicants must be in the 11th or 12th grade, traditional high-school age, and have a competitive academic record (generally top 10% of the class) in a strong curriculum including honors, Advanced Placement, or International Baccalaureate course work (if available).
Applicants must have competitive standardized test scores (PSAT, SAT, and/or ACT). A letter of recommendation may be accepted in place of the SAT or ACT for junior applicants only.
Applicants must complete all of the PSEO application and required forms before the application deadline. There is not an application fee.
Juniors and first-time PSEO applicants are allowed to take only one course their first semester. Two courses may be approved for returning seniors. Please consult our Academic Course Schedule at macalester.edu/registrar. The PSEO Application requires that applicants submit the course title, number, and section of the course(s) they intend to take.
