Why I chose Admissions
Admissions work allows one to actually see and experience the impact we have on others’ lives (and by extension, the world) through education. Telling the story of this remarkable community to the next generation that will help to shape it is consistently inspiring and calls me to improve every day. And, it’s fun!
As a student at Macalester, I was a volunteer tour guide (later a tour guide coordinator) and was very involved with the Theater Department. As staff, I’m actively engaged with anti-racism work on campus through involvement in the Allies Program, Unlearning White Supremacy (a group for students, faculty, and staff), Staff Affirmative Action Working Group, and more. I’m also a member of a national professional group CIVSA and a working theater artist.
Favorite time of year at Mac
My favorite Mac events are move-in day, when all the new first-years arrive; and, at the end of the journey, special commencement ceremonies like Lavender Graduation (for LGBTQ+ students), Rites of Passage (for students of color), and Honoring the Journey (for first-generation students). Season-wise, on campus and off, I love the fall.
Love about the Twin Cities
So many things! The theater community, all the green space, how bikeable it is, and all the great FOOD.
