JUNE 15-18, 2021
Your launchpad to college: we want to help you get there.
PRE@Mac is a free four-day virtual immersion into the college experience for Minnesota high school students graduating in 2022 or 2023. We’re looking for bright, motivated students from Black, Indigenous, and/or Communities of Color (BIPOC). We’ll introduce you to the tools necessary to navigate a successful college search and application process.
Just like a college student, you’ll:
- Explore the identities you will bring to a college campus and how to find a sense of belonging
- Learn how to access financial aid resources to make college more affordable
- Sample real classes taught by Macalester professors
- Be mentored by Mac students who are just like you!
- Completed application form
- One letter of recommendation
- Unofficial transcript
Application deadline has passed
Applicants will be notified in May of acceptance to Pre@Mac program.
When and where does PRE@Mac take place?
PRE@Mac 2021 is a VIRTUAL pre-college program. We’re coming to a screen near you!
Who is it for?
PRE@Mac is for Minnesota high school students graduating in 2022 or 2023. We’re looking for bright, motivated students from backgrounds that have been traditionally underrepresented in higher education (e.g., students of color and/or first generation to attend college).
Are there scholarships available?
PRE@Mac is 100% free and you may even get some free swag.
How do I apply?
Interested students must either submit an application using the application form linked above, or be nominated to apply by a teacher or counselor. In addition to the form, you need to send in one letter of recommendation written by someone from school (such as a teacher, guidance counselor, or principal) or a college access advisor who can speak to both your academic ability and your involvement/responsibilities outside of school.
How do I know if I am selected to participate?
All applicants will receive a decision notification by email and letter in mid May.
Can my parents attend?
We invite the people who are supporting you through the college admissions process to attend the welcome and closing celebration sessions on Tuesday and Friday.
Do I have to sign something promising I’ll go to Macalester for college afterward?
We certainly hope you’ll come to love our school as much as we do, but this is about helping you find the college option that’s right for you—even if that’s not us.
Will there be bagpipes at this?
There might be bagpipes.
Still curious? Send questions to email@example.com—we’d love to hear from you!
