What should I bring?

You will want to bring a sleeping bag, pillow, towel, and any other personal items. Please dress comfortably; your stay at Macalester will be busy!

What should I expect?

A Macalester student has volunteered to help welcome you to our campus and provide you with a place to sleep. Your host looks forward to introducing you to Macalester. However, they may have other commitments or obligations (papers to write, sports, play rehearsal, etc.), so be adventurous during your stay at Mac. Introduce yourself to other Spring Sampler participants and have fun exploring our community. Rest assured – there’s never a shortage of activity at Macalester and we’re excited to have you on our campus.

What if I am arriving late for my overnight stay?

Students completing the overnight portion of the program are expected to arrive on campus by 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. In case of flight or other transit delays, the Admissions Office will remain open until 8:00 p.m. to connect you with your overnight host. After 8:00 p.m., you should visit the Information Desk on the first floor of the Campus Center, and an on-call Visit Coordinator will assist you.

What if I am staying with a friend on campus and don’t need the Admissions Office to assign a host to me?

If you will be staying on campus with a friend, please call the Admissions Office and let us know:

  • The name of the student who will host you
  • If you will attend the dinner on Thursday at 5:00 p.m.

If you are not planning to attend the dinner, please arrange an alternate meeting time and location with your host.
