\n\n Anthropology Major <\/a> | \n\n Anthropology Minor <\/a> \n\n<\/p>\n\n

General Distribution Requirement<\/h3>

All courses in the anthropology department count toward the general distribution requirement in the social sciences except for ANTH 112<\/a>,\u00a0ANTH 115<\/a>,\u00a0ANTH 223<\/a>, ANTH 240<\/a>,\u00a0ANTH 251<\/a>,\u00a0ANTH 340<\/a>,\u00a0ANTH 405<\/a>, ANTH 604<\/a>, ANTH 614<\/a>, ANTH 624<\/a>, and ANTH 634<\/a>. Courses numbered ANTH 112<\/a>,\u00a0ANTH 115<\/a>, ANTH 240<\/a>\u00a0and ANTH 340<\/a>\u00a0count toward the general distribution requirement in math\/natural sciences.\u00a0ANTH 223<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0ANTH 251<\/a>\u00a0and count toward the humanities general distribution. ANTH 405<\/a>\u00a0counts toward the fine arts distribution. Consult the department chair for information on how specific topics courses may meet a general distribution requirement.<\/p>

General Education Requirements<\/h3>

Courses that meet the general education requirements in writing, quantitative thinking, internationalism and U.S identities and differences will be posted on the Registrar's web page in advance of registration for each semester.<\/p>

Honors Program<\/h3>

The anthropology department participates in the Honors Program. Eligibility requirements, application procedures and specific project expectations for the department are available from either the department office or the Academic Programs and Advising Office.<\/p>

ANTH 194<\/a>, ANTH 294<\/a>, ANTH 394<\/a>, ANTH 494<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>

Examination of selected topics of relevance to anthropology, such as Anthropology of Higher Education; Magic and Witchcraft Across Cultures; and Race as Caste: The U.S. and India in Comparative Perspective.\u00a0To be announced at registration. (4 credits)<\/p>

Independent Study<\/h3>

The department offers independent study options in the\u00a0form of tutorials, independent projects, internships, preceptorships and\u00a0Honors independent projects. For more information contact the department and review the Curriculum\u00a0section of the catalog.\u00a0 In general, these do not count towards fulfillment of the major. An exception may be made at the discretion of the department chair.<\/p>\n\n\n
