Macalester Art and Art History faculty, staff, students and alumni serve their communities through the practice, presentation, appreciation, interpretation, and conservation of art and visual culture. <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Artmaking involves examining, transforming, and communicating individual and collective human experiences into visual form. Art History studies the tangible documentation of culture and provides a window into the history and philosophy of many societies, past and present. The Art and Art History Department offers majors and minors in either Art History or Studio Art All of our students learn through research, observation and hands-on practice. A Macalester Studio Art or Art History degree prepares students for graduate study in art or art history, provides transferable skills for a range of careers, and forms the foundation for professional practice in the arts. Each spring, Art History majors present public lectures of their original capstone research projects while the Studio Art capstones consist of an exhibition of original artwork in the Law Warschaw Gallery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
