Effective measurement of learning outcomes requires a benchmark from which to compare future results. For this reason, Macalester administers an Assessment Day each year during orientation, at which time all first-year students are asked to participate in one or more of our longitudinal assessment tools. In the Fall of 2010, 96 percent of all first-year students took part.

Support from advisers, coaches, and orientation leaders are a vital part of the day’s success. These individuals are a first point of contact for our new students. They help to educate our students about assessment, encourage students to participate, and in some cases, escort students to their assessment sessions. Assessment Day would also not be possible without the hard work and dedication of our many volunteer proctors. Volunteers include staff and faculty from across campus.

If you have questions about Assessment Day or would like to volunteer, please do not hesitate to contact the Assistant Director of Assessment.
