{"id":98,"date":"2018-03-05T04:08:12","date_gmt":"2018-03-05T04:08:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.macalester.edu\/160-assessment\/institutional\/"},"modified":"2024-05-28T16:18:03","modified_gmt":"2024-05-28T21:18:03","slug":"collegewidelearningoutcomes","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.macalester.edu\/assessment\/collegewidelearningoutcomes\/","title":{"rendered":"College-wide Student Learning Outcomes"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"486\" src=\"https:\/\/www.macalester.edu\/assessment\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/517\/Institutional-Learning-outcomes-1024x486.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-354\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.macalester.edu\/assessment\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/517\/Institutional-Learning-outcomes-1024x486.jpg 1024w,  https:\/\/www.macalester.edu\/assessment\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/517\/Institutional-Learning-outcomes-300x142.jpg 300w,  https:\/\/www.macalester.edu\/assessment\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/517\/Institutional-Learning-outcomes-768x364.jpg 768w,  https:\/\/www.macalester.edu\/assessment\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/517\/Institutional-Learning-outcomes-1536x729.jpg 1536w,  https:\/\/www.macalester.edu\/assessment\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/517\/Institutional-Learning-outcomes.jpg 1600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Beginning in 2010, the Student Learning Committee (SLC), chaired by the Associate Dean of the Faculty, led the campus through an iterative process to identify college-wide student learning goals and outcomes.&nbsp; SLC is a presidential committee, composed of faculty, staff, and students.&nbsp; The committee used the college\u2019s Mission and the Statement of Purpose and Belief as a foundation for these student learning goals and outcomes, and benefited from extensive feedback from students, alumni, faculty and staff.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In 2012 the faculty, Student Affairs Leadership Team, and two committees of the Board of Trustees approved six college-wide student learning outcomes for Macalester graduates:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Demonstrate Depth and Breadth&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Think Critically and Analyze Effectively<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Communicate Effectively<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Demonstrate Intercultural Knowledge and Competence<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Make Informed Choices and Accept Responsibility<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Engage Community<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Assessment Office conducts <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1wIboUixi9r2ZXBW2_j08mbyr7koxNvB2\/view?usp=sharing\">regular assessments<\/a> of these outcomes on behalf of the Student Learning Committee.&nbsp; The purpose of institution-wide assessment at Macalester is not to evaluate individual students or to classify or grade them.
