The Olin-Rice Hub provides help finding on and off-campus research opportunities. Many students use their research experience as the basis for senior capstone projects, honors theses, and may contribute to peer-reviewed publications.&nbsp; Macalester biochemistry faculty have research expertise spanning:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Bioinorganic Chemistry (<a href=\"\/chemistry\/facultystaff\/kathrynsplan\/\">Splan<\/a>)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Chemical Biology (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.macalester.edu\/chemistry\/facultystaff\/leahwitus\/\">Witus<\/a>)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Behavioral Neuroimmunology (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.macalester.edu\/biology\/facultystaff\/883\/\">Rivera<\/a>)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Neuroscience (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.macalester.edu\/biology\/facultystaff\/michelle-tong\/\">Tong<\/a>)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Microbiology, Biochemistry, Computational Biology (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.macalester.edu\/biology\/facultystaff\/robin-shields-cutler\/\">Shields-Cutler<\/a>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Faculty research has been funded by grants from the Research Corporation, American Chemical Society, Dreyfus Foundation, the National Science Foundation, and the National Institutes of Health, and is supported by access to an array of research instrumentation comparable to large research institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.macalester.edu\/student-research\">Office of Student Research and Creativity<\/a>\u00a0coordinates and facilitates the identification of both on- and off-campus research activities.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Every year, students are involved in biochemical research both on- and off-campus, over the summer and during the academic year.
