Low-Effort Strategies to Support Student Well-Being

Please join Christina Esposito (Linguistics), Jen Jacobsen (Hamre Center), Lesley Lavery (Political Science), Ahoo Najafian (Religious Studies), Jaine Strauss (Psychology) and Elena Tonc (Biology), for a discussion on “Low-effort Strategies to Support Student Well-Being.” Conversations – and concerns – about student well-being and mental health are evident across the higher education landscape. This past summer, a group of Macalester faculty joined colleagues from eight other Associated Colleges of the Midwest (ACM) colleges to learn more about our students’ experiences and to develop strategies to enhance their intellectual engagement and academic success while also safeguarding faculty and staff wellbeing. We’ll first share data presented at this workshop specific to our students as well as some easy-to-implement tactics for decreasing student stress proposed by the ACM participants. The majority of our time will be devoted to brainstorming additional low-effort tweaks we can make institutionally to promote wellbeing for all members of our community. To-go desserts and beverages will be provided. All faculty and staff are welcome.
